This month’s photo was shot at the WAO Festival 2017 and shows the cards laid upon a beautiful lavender bush (part of a large field/patch of similar bushes that make the whole area smell nicely), with a background view of the main stage of the festival, built with the Canya Viva method.
The Tarot deck we used in this setting is the Visconti Tarot (which we don’t own, but we borrowed from Katia who had been teaching a Tarot workshop at the festival). This is a modern reprint of a very old deck commissioned to varius artists by the Italian Visconti-Sforza family in the fifteenth century. Here is a wikipedia page about its history. The ‘modern’ deck is sold by Lo Scarabeo.
For the beginning of the month we pulled the ‘Knight of Wands (Fire)’ (we pulled this card in earlier readings too). This card talks about energy, drive, passion for a cause or an ideal, a search for justice and a commitment to make concrete progress on what we believe. Don’t sit on your laurels – it’s prime time for action! This energy is very much in alignment with the current Leo season, which reaches its maximum strength on August 8th (August 7th is also the time for an extremely powerful Full Moon!).
For the central part of the month we pulled the ‘Ten of Cups (Water)’ (this is also a card we have pulled in earlier readings). This card talks of recognizing your abundance and that you having everything you need: things are going wonderfully and your friends and family love you and they are around you to provide help and lift you up when the game gets tough. As families, as individuals and as a society, we need to step into the future holding hands and singing songs, not building walls. The energy of this period might take a slower pose compared to the previous decade of action and drive, yet there is great potential for deepened relationships and personal growth, riding on the quarter moon of the 15th. This is a period when a lot of shooting stars will be visible – happy wishing!
The card we drew for the last part of the month is the ‘Six of Coins (Pentacles/Earth)’ which talks about giving and sharing your riches with those in need. There is a sense of fairness in this card, where the energy that is given returns back to the giver and both players come out enriched from the experience. It is said that being generous and giving with an open heart ultimately attracts threefold return from the Universe. In the book ‘Tarot Therapy – Volume 3’, Steve Hounsome wrote about this card: “[…]In these time of materiality, greed, bonuses, million pound wage structures and higher property prices, the idea of actually giving some of your hard-earned loot away can seem to go against the grain. However this is not the grain that the Universe runs by. […]” and it is very true. ‘Giving’ (and receiving) might of course refer to material possessions, money, physical help or any other form of payment, favor or benefit. This last period starts on the 21st of August – which is a New Moon and a Solar Eclipse: perfect to begin incorporating new giving rituals in your routine.
