This month we used the ‘Dragons Tarot’ published by “Lo Scarabeo“, Italy (this deck was a Christmas gift by our son).

For the beginning of the month we pulled the ‘Ace of Swords‘. This card speaks of intelligence and determination: the sword is a symbol of using reason, mental power and intellect to face our challenges. Nevertheless, the magic sword – like the famous Excalibur – needs to be bathed in water and emotions, plunged into the feminine qualities (symbolized in this deck’s image by a feminine crown) in order to be complete and fully harnessed. The first part of this month (and of the year) will indeed be very magical: from the 1st to the 5th of January (and especially on the nights of the 3rd and 4th) there will be the Quadrantid meteor storm which should be visible in the night’s hours (after midnight UTC should be at its best, after the dreamy and visionary moon – transiting in Pisces – will have set): what is more magical than looking for and counting falling stars? Don’t forget to express your wishes when you see a falling star, focus and believe in your intentions! On January 5th we will have a first quarter moon – in Aries, with its well-known fire-y drive – and after January 8th, Mercury will end is retrograde motion and will turn direct again – favoring intellect and communication, so that those wishes can be really set in motion in the material world.

For the central part of the month we pulled the ‘Page of Swords‘. The suggestion of this card is to keep an open mind and a positive outlook on things: we might receive new and important information in the form of a contract, legal documents, or even just a whisper or gossip. If we didn’t expect it or didn’t see it coming, it’s important to separate the message from the messenger and tap into a fresh, child-like spirit to see the possibilities it brings: regardless of how this information will be delivered and its actual content, this will be useful information if we have faith on our ability and we don’t waver. A full moon in Cancer will occur on January 12th and it will set the stage for doors to be opened for us if we just persist on walking our path without fear. The last quarter moon in Libra on the 19th might feel like an exam to get through this period and onto the next phase, but it will be worth it.

The card we drew for the last part of the month is the ‘King of Pentacles (Coins)’. This king is lord of the fertile land, he’s representing the part of human beings that is more in touch with the environment, mother nature and its rhythms. Like all ‘court’ cards in Tarot, this might indicate someone you’ll meet or it could be an invite to embody the qualities of this King in your life and your actions: this king knows the secret to abundance and he might be showing up in the form of some financial gain, promotion or other ‘good deal’; but his message, more in general, is to get back to basics, to the richness of the ground, to recognizing our connection to nature, to find joy and abundance in the simple things, to go back to our roots and to the wisdom of our ancestors. Learning to need less, committing to care for a better world and detaching ourselves from the illusory cravings advertised by corporations and their commercials might be all that this ‘good deal’ is going to be about. The new moon in Aquarius on January 28th will help us to let go of what doesn’t serve us, to become more conscious in our choices, purchases and investments, to find that we can only be really rich when we give, rather than when we take – an attitude that is often forgotten these days.
